Met Gala 2022 : A Night of Glamour, Designer and Stars

Met Gala 2022 : A Night of Glamour, Designer and Stars

Once again, fashion’s biggest, most exclusive night of the year takes place; the Met Gala. Traditionally held year after year ever since 1948 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute. Stars from all over come to reunite on this night in May and stun the paparazzi with their themed designer looks ranging from Versace to Louis Vuitton.

2022’s Met Gala theme was ‘Gilded Glamour’ and the guest list featured big names such as artist Lizzo (About Damn Time), internet personality Emma Chamberlain (Chamberlain Coffee), artist Billie Eilish (Happier than Ever), the Kardashian-Jenner sisters (The Kardashians on Hulu), rising star Olivia Rodrigo (SOUR), and many more. The official co-chairs this year included Broadway composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), seasoned attendees of the gala Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) and Ryan Reynolds (Red Notice) and actress Regina King (A Cinderella Story)

This year’s best-dressed favours Blake Lively, who wore a transforming Versace dress abstract of the oxidation of the Statue of Liberty - definitively showing a progression from the Gilded Age. Our favourite part? Her husband Ryan Reynolds’ priceless reaction to the whole thing.

Furthermore, this was the first Met Gala with every Kardashian-Jenner sister in attendance. Eldest sister Kourtney Kardashian debuted at the gala with her partner Travis Barker in Thom Browne. Kim Kardashian also attended with her significant other Pete Davidson, but instead borrowed Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday JFK’ dress from Ripley’s Believe it or Not! (originally designed by Bob Mackie) whilst Davidson wore a classic Prada suit. Businesswoman Kylie Jenner paid tribute to designer and close friend Abloh in a wedding dress ensemble designed by him, and the elder Jenner sister (Kendall) switched things up in a volumised two-piece dress by Prada. Khloé Kardashian also debuted on the Met carpet this year in a stunning fitted gold dress by Moschino, covered in 540,000 glass beads sewed on by hand.

Other honorary mentions include Olivia Rodrigo’s lilac Versace dress representative of her latest album SOUR, donning butterflies in her hair and matching purple makeup to bring the entire look together, and Billie Eilish’s ecologically friendly Gucci dress that used recycled fabrics and gave her a stunning, pastel look worthy of the gilded age’s high society, tying together a mint-green corset finished with an embellished flower and a satin cream skirt that topped off the gilded fashion. Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria)’s Tory Burch pearl-white dress also astounded all present as a detachable train dress on her first Met Gala appearance.

Overall, there were some stunners on the carpet this year, but other looks could be improved (We're looking at you, Kourtney Kardashian). Even so, this year’s Met Gala did not disappoint.
