Theatre Tuesday: Hamilton

Welcome to Theatre Tuesday, where I pick random Tuesdays and post about theatre! Today, for our debut, we are talking about one of my favorite musicals of all time that spins a tale of legacy, courage and resilience; Hamilton

I'm sure you have heard of Hamilton before-somewhere. Written by and produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda(but directed by Thomas Kail and composed by Alex Lacamoire) Hamilton debuted in February 2015 off-Broadway at the Public Theater in New York, but moved to Broadway and the Richard Rodgers theatre on August 6, 2015.

The Original Broadway Cast (who are also on the Cast Album) star Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Phillipa Soo as Elizabeth Schuyler-Hamilton, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Christopher Jackson as George Washington and many more-including Jonathan Groff who plays King George III, but you also may know him from Frozen where he plays Kristoff and Sven.

Most of the cast play dual roles, such as the role of Peggy/Maria, where the selected actress plays Peggy Schuyler in Act 1, and Maria Reynolds in Act 2, or the roles of John Laurens/Philip Hamilton where the selected actor plays John Laurens in Act 1, then Philip Hamilton(the eldest son of Alexander Hamilton) in Act 2.

The musical follows one of the youngest Founding Fathers Alexander Hamilton from when he arrives in New York and he builds his name through the course of more than a decade until the day in 1804 when he gets shot in a fatal duel by his first friend, Aaron Burr.

This compelling musical that rolls rap music, pop songs and show tunes all into one play will leave you laughing, crying and speechless throughout the entire two hours.

The musical is currently available for viewing on Disney+, and is playing in some countries and select states in the USA. There are also national tours in the USA.
